real corpses in imaginary war

Novelist Arundhati Roy (author of God Of Small Things) gave an amazing, mordant and succinct speech at The Riverside Church in NY in May. I just had an opportunity to listen to a recording of it today.

Roy perfectly vocalizes the tension that lots of people feel in a funny and interesting way without being guilty of being too dogmatic or too jocose.

I urge you to take 30 minutes and read transcripts of the speech: Instant-Mix Imperial Democracy (Buy One, Get One Free)

U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft recently declared that U.S. freedoms are "not the grant of any government or document, but our endowment from God." (Why bother with the United Nations when God himself is on hand?)
